Current Committees


Scholarship Committee:  Educational scholarships will be awarded to students who are admitted into an accredited institution of higher learning and will be used by the recipient to obtain an academic degree or professional or trade license.  The Scholarship committee shall consist of, but not be limited to, at least one member of the Executive Board and at least two other members of the Board of Directors.  Scholarship committee activities include annually coordinating the distribution of scholarship applications to interested local students, selecting successful recipients from a pool of applicants; awarding scholarship funds to recipients in an awards ceremony that includes selecting award presenters from respected regional legal figures; securing a ceremony venue; selecting a key note speakers and organizing event catering for recipients and their families.


Membership Committee:  Each year the membership committee must conduct one Membership Campaign for the purpose of renewing current members and obtaining new members.  Membership committee activities shall include direct mail membership drives, collecting annual membership dues, updating the membership database, and organizing membership drive events and mixers.


CLE/Speakers Committee:  To create a yearly calendar of CLE Courses to cumulatively obtain the requisite Bar MCLE credits for members who attend the monthly MABA meetings.  CLE/Speakers Committee member activities shall include organizing a course syllabus of timely, meaningful CLE course topics for the year; obtaining and scheduling CLE speakers; obtaining State Bar course approval; and petitioning the State Bar for MCLE credit to all course attendees.

Mentor Day Committee: To provide an interesting, meaningful day program for students who are interested in a legal career or legal specialty.  Mentor Day Committee members shall organize an agenda for the activities for mentor day; publicize the event to potentially interested students; secure an interesting, law-oriented venue for the event; and organize all event catering.


Golf Tournament Committee:  To host a charity golf tournament open to all San Antonio professionals and business owners each year.  Funds are ultimately raised for the San Antonio Mexican American Bar Foundation for the sole purpose of awarding annual scholarships to successful student applicants via the Scholarship Committee.  Golf Tournament Committee members shall organize an agenda for the activities for a golf tournament; publicize the event to potentially interested players, teams, advertisers and sponsors; secure a golf club for the event; organize and obtain prizes for a silent auction to accompany the event, obtain prizes for players; collect funds from players and advertisers; and organize all event catering.


Raffle Committee:  To conduct an annual charity raffle of various prizes to include several cash prizes for distribution via pre-paid credit cards.  t a charity golf tournament open to all San Antonio professionals and business owners each year.  Funds are ultimately raised for the San Antonio Mexican American Bar Foundation for the sole purpose of awarding annual scholarships to successful student applicants via the Scholarship Committee.  Raffle Committee members shall obtain all prizes; publicize the event to potentially interested raffle participants, advertisers and sponsors; secure a ticket printer limited to 250 tickets or similar fixed amount; manage ticket distribution from participating members for sale to interested raffle participants; collect funds from membership sales, individual raffle players and advertisers; and organize all event catering.


(Dia de Los) Muertos Party Committee:  To host an annual charity Halloween Costume Party open to all San Antonio professionals and business owners each year.  Funds are ultimately raised for the San Antonio Mexican American Bar Foundation for the sole purpose of awarding annual scholarships to successful student applicants via the Scholarship Committee.  Muertos Committee members shall organize an agenda for the activities for a party; publicize the event to potentially interested attendees, advertisers and sponsors; secure an outdoor venue with bar for the event at least one year in advance; decorate the venue and obtain AV equipment for live TV or video display; organize and obtain prizes for a silent auction to accompany the event, obtain prizes for costume contest winners; collect funds from attendees and advertisers; and organize all event catering, liquor donations, and TABC approved bartenders.


Pachanga (Christmas) Charity Gala Committee:  To host an annual charity Christmas Gala and Officer Installation Banquet open to the MABA members, guest and the San Antonio legal community.  Halloween Costume Party open to all San Antonio professionals and business owners each year.  Funds are ultimately raised for the San Antonio Mexican American Bar Foundation for the sole purpose of awarding annual scholarships to successful student applicants via the Scholarship Committee.  Pachanga Committee members shall organize an agenda for the activities for the banquet including nominating a community service and notable legal leader for the purpose of furthering MABAs charter ideals as well as organizing a program for swearing in new officers via a Judge; publicize the event to potentially interested attendees, advertisers and sponsors; secure a banquet venue with bar for the event at least one year in advance; decorate the venue and obtain AV equipment for live TV or video display; organize and obtain prizes for a silent auction to accompany the event, obtain awards for the nominated leaders as well as for past officer achievement; collect funds from attendees and advertisers; and organize all event catering.

          MABA SAN ANTONIO
